Human skull found near Lake Fulmor

Postby halhiker » Wed Sep 22, 2010 9:45 pm

Police released a sketch of what the person whose skull was found may have looked like. Wasn't there some guy who disappeared a few years ago in the Snow Creek area who was never found? I know Lake Fulmor isn't that close to Snow Creek but a few of us have hiked that far in a day. Anyway, here's the story:

Skull Found

Postby wb » Thu Nov 25, 2010 9:13 am

Hi Hal,

You might be thinking about Joshua Best, who disappeared on 9/9/2000 in the San Jacinto Wilderness and, to my knowledge, was never seen again. The link to your article is broken. This one works: http://www.pe.com/localnews/hemet/stori ... 59d2e.html (hopefully!). One would assume that Joshua Best would have been considered by the local authorities as the owner of said skull? It seems unlikely that it was him.

It probably wasn't Joshua Best. He disappeared on the tramway side of the mountain. Some family members who did their own private search found his wallet near the top of Leatherneck Ridge, which is east of Cornell Peak. In the wallet was a tramway receipt and in the area there were footprints leading down towards the valley. Most believe he tried to hike back down to PS via this ridge but did not make it.
