Whatcha Doin' on Labor Day?

Postby Hikin_Jim » Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:20 am

On Labor Day, I'm headed up to SJ Peak from the tram via Sid Davis route and Miller Saddle. I'm also hoping to visit Newton Drury Peak, but we'll see how I feel when I top out on SJ (knees are doing better but not 100%).

Stop and say "hi" if you see me. I wear a floppy, wide brimmed khaki hat that says "Maui" on it.

Whatcha doing on Labor Day

Postby Cy Kaicener » Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:38 am

I am thinking of doing the Labor Day run (walking in my case) from Manker Flats to the top of Baldy which is about 4000 feet of gain.
I will start much earlier than 8.00 am (probably around 5.30 or 6.00 am) and park at Icehouse Canyon and walk up the road to get that extra 1500 feet of elevation gain.

You can take a nice "shortcut" home by using the Three "T's" route and descending Icehouse Canyon to your car.

I too will be at the Baldy race. Hope to see you there, Cy.

Shouldn't that say, "I'll be wearing a small person of incomparable beauty on my back, HitchHikin' Joyce!"?

Zé: I'm hoping to have a chance to get away and do the race too. Looks like Steve and Fern are in, so we could have a reunion of sorts up there.

Cy: Hope to see you there! Are you going to start early and be at the finish line as people are arriving?

Anybody else thinking about it?

I'm planning on running it. This will be my first time participating in the Baldy race. Did a training run on the course last weekend and now I'm super excited to race it. Anybody else raced it before? Any words of wisdom for a first timer?

Watcha doing on Labor Day

I hope to see you there at the start Ze, Zip, Steve, Fern and Brad. All of you will be on top long before me, so if I miss you at the start, I might see you on your way down. :D

 No, not this time.

One of these days, though. I keep thinking of taking her to Icehouse Canyon for a short hike and then maybe letting people know the approx. time we'd be in Baldy Village so that, if people wanted to drop by and say hello, they could. Of course this plan of mine hasn't yet been properly vetted by "she who must be obeyed."

I also plan on going up the tram, but I'm leaning towards going to Longview Dome.
