A place to stay for out of towners

I don't know if you folks from out of town are hoping to rough it, but the Hyatt is directly behind the museum trail entrance. If you're wondering where to stay, if they have openings, they're certainly perfectly located.

I don't really enjoy camping near as much if I can't sit around a campfire and swap stories of wild adventures in the wilderness, and with the dry conditions, fire restrictions are probably in place. So, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I stayed out there last summer, and really enjoyed coming back down to a comfortable pool, a soft bed, and some delicious Mexican food at Las Casuelas.

Just a thought. Hope to see you on the trail.

If you want to rough it, there's always the Motel 6 near where Ramon Rd. hits the main drag.

We just stayed at the Motel 6 metioned, suitable for the 4 hours we were there. Kinda a waste though, not sure if we would have been better just starting at 11pm when we got there.

Next time I may just nap in the car then start the hike and stay the next night and enjoy a pool and hot tub. I have a hard time driving after a long days hike, Phoenix is still 4 hours away for me.

I'm with you, Davis2001r6! I usually try to put in at least 6 hours at the Motel 6, but it's still pretty steep per hour. Then again, 6 hours at the Hyatt...

yeah the hyatt is awesome, and if you want some delicious food after the long hike, id recommend the Blue Coyote, a nice mexican restaurant.

We stayed at the Ramada the night before our hike two weeks ago. It was much nicer than we expected or needed but we didn't have the guts to chance it at Motel 6. For us, the cost (split 2 ways) was well worth it for peace of mind and a good nights sleep.

The Motel 6 is about $50 (plux tax).

A little correction - I'm pretty local (about 30 minutes out of Palm Springs) so when I went, it was really about enjoying the weekend as a whole, not just the C2C. If your main goal is the hike and you're going to be in your room for about 4 hours, then I agree that the smallest investment possible makes good sense. I'd probably just crash out in the back of my truck along some little desert spur road, then drive the last couple of miles in the morning. You'd get some great views of the stars that way as well.
