SOS -- Save our Skyline

Postby Ellen » Wed Jun 02, 2010 5:50 pm

Howdy All :)

I'll be heading up Skyline before the carp of dawn on Saturday. I would usually avoid Skyline now due to the heat -- 80 degrees for the low  However, I am spending Saturday night in Palm Springs (I'm speaking at a conference on Sunday) so I don't have to drive home post-hike 8)

I figure this is a good time to 1) pick up trash and toilet paper and 2) help replenish Saint Florian's cache. For me, it's too hot to go fast, so I'll do what I can to help one of my favorite routes.

I'll be carrying gloves and a trash bag.

Miles of smiles and thanks,
Ellen

Ellen, i'm tempted to come up with you. But not sure yet. Let me know what the water cache looks like.

Howdy Florian :)

We'll definately add to your cache. Thank goodness I have company on this trip -- more hands = more trash.

Will also use my headlamp -- I have enough scratches on my arms and legs, don't need any more

Ellen,

I'm a bit new to the SJMB, but I've been following the amazing posts of fellow hikoholics for some time now (including several of your fearless misadventures)! I hope to share our mutual passion on some trails in the future. So I would like to give you some sobering advice...it's going to be
TOO HOT this weekend! No doubt you're going to do it anyway, so please
go with someone and be smart...too many people care about you. :) (I
don't know how to use the "Emoticons" yet)! :(

we'll be on the trail Ellen..and probably starting after you....I know you wont mistake any of our stashes for trash , should you run across them.

Maybe water thats left in the bucket should have some crap floating in it, make it non appealing, only good for survival, carrying water up there for other hikers to drink because their thirsty seems a little odd.

This was the only weekend I could squeeze this hike in, and I know it'll be hot...but I'm going anyway. My wife thinks I'm OCD! I'm leaving from the museum at 5am, and I hike at a moderate pace, I won't be racing up the hill. Out of the other 5 invitees, no one would commit, so I'm going alone. You don't think that's OCD, do you?

Anyone else is welcome to join, and I'm only going one way to the tram where my wife will meet me. Am I wrong to think I'll miss most of the heat because of being up over 6,000' relatively mid morning? Thanks for any tips.

Hope to see you out there!
Victor

IMHO - 5am start...too late. Gets hot fast after 8am and it's going to be hot tomorrow.

I'm heading for the summit tomorrow, 3am start. Maybe see you up top.

Good luck!

Thats a good idea! haha..

need to strain before drink..

seems it would be better to just hide that cache off trail and only disclose the location to some..be better than hauling water up there just for people that take, take, take and never give..

have fun on your hike, wish I could be out there this weekend
