It looks like I'm going to be able to make the trek up the Skyline Trail on Saturday - I hope I see some of you folks out there. I'm going to try to start real early, so I'm sure some of the fast people will be passing me as I head up.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip on Coconut water, I may give it a try.
One theory is elctrolytes don't digest like carbs, so a co. called E-Lyte have the 4 main ones for exercise, Sodium, Potasium, Magnesium & Calcium, and no carbs. It has a slight salty taste, but not bad (I'm used to putting a teaspoon of seasalt in my water bladder)
The other Camelbak bladder I put Gookinaid (Hydrolite) which many search & rescue teams, light the ones in Grand Cyn) use. Much easier on your stomach w/ much less crap (development by an utra-runner / Dr.)
It keeps me from bonking & leg cramps.

Ellen - thanks for the info on your books - I think I'm going to pick up a copy of "Eating for Endurance". It looks like a book I will be able to pick up some good info from.

Howdy all :D

I promise that I didn't join the forum to promote my books or myself  I joined because I want to meet people like Cy who hike Skyline frequently.

I work with a lot of triathletes and find that I learn from them and visa versa. I'm looking forward to doing the same here.

BTW -- I'm not a really fast hiker. I've had numerous low back and neck surgeries which ended my running and cycling. I'm ecstatic that I can still enjoy the wilderness and fellowship by hiking.

Look forward to seeing you on Skyline tomorrow.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen
