Road Conditions/Motorcycles

Postby PaulieRoze » Fri Feb 05, 2010 5:39 pm

Hello all.. I'm a newbie to the forum.. used to do some rock climbing/hiking on the mtn many years ago.. haven't been back in a long time.. life's roads took me in other directions for a while...

I have just moved back to so cal.. and am a female motorcycle rider.. i have some friends coming out for a visit from the east coast, ga, and az.. at the end of march... we are all meetin' up in palm springs... trying to put together a day ride .. I was thinking about heading up to Idyllwild... but not sure what conditions the roads would be... not so concerned about the temps.. just wondering about possible ice or gravel hazards.. we'll all be on motorcycles... and i'd like to keep my friends safe....

Can y'all give me some input on this? Should i find another destination? Not sure that there are many to choose from, for a short day ride, in that area...

thanks!!

It is too early to predict what road conditions will be like in March. Rest assured that you will have many options for your ride if Idyllwild road conditions are not good. Consider Pioneer Town, Joshua Tree and Anza Borrego as alternatives.

Hi Polieroze,
I ride around this area, based in PS. If you send me a pm, I can give you some options, the last post made some good suggestions too. Can also give you updates.

PR,
I've done the circuit from PS to Banning to Idyllwild and back down Highway 74, or in the reverse direction, several times in March the last few years. Only once have I encountered any sections of snow, and just in the curves north of Idyllwild. It's a beautiful ride...you'll really enjoy it.
Just be wary of the kneedragging sportbikers on the weekend who sometimes careen around the hairpin curves on Highway 74 above Palm Desert.
