Hopefully, it will be around 60 degrees at 4:30 am in Palm Springs and then 60 degrees in Long Valley later in the day when it's 99 in Palm Springs.

On Weather.com's hourly forecast it's showing 72 degrees at 4:00 a.m. Warm, but not bad.

I remember last July I did Skyline when the predicted high was 118. It was in the high 80's when I started. Now that was a hot one!

Tram Station Weather

Postby magikwalt » Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:06 am

Palm Springs is expecting highs around 100-102 on Saturday so I would be expecting the Tram high to be in the low 70s at least. If figuring to hit the tram by noon you could remove about 3-5 degrees of the max temp. About noon Palm Springs would be about 95-96 and the tram would be in the upper 60's or maybe 70 degrees by noon.

I have been watching the TV reports of the day's weather up at the tram this week as I'm going to take the death box up on Saturday to go to peak, and it has been in the low seventies up there. If it's that warm up there then it is gonna be very hot on Skyline. Yikes.

Maybe see some of you all up at the top ...

The Desert Sun online this morning is calling for 94º on Saturday while the Weather.com folks are holding to 100º. They have the same kind of difference lined up for Sunday as well. Wonder how they can be so different? Maybe it helps tourism to not advertise 100º+ weather.

99 degrees by Friday

Postby Cy Kaicener » Fri Mar 16, 2007 6:45 am

We should be half way up before the sun comes out. Daylight savings time gives us an extra hour. Just take an extra quart of water or energy drink.
The temperature drops one degree for every 250 feet you go up.
Get enough sleep and have a good meal before we start.
I will try to be there close to 4 am.

Hi to all who are going from bottom to top (San Jacinto). Cy replied to a message I posted on outdoorsclub.org. So I'd like to meet ya all. If someone can briefly tell me where the museum is and the what time you'd like me there and any other pertinent info you think I should know.
Thanks for the reply, Pam

I'm going to try to be at the Palm Springs Art Museum between 4 am and 4:30 am, so that I can start hiking by 4:30 am.

Here's a link with really good info:

http://www.geocities.com/cactus2clouds/skyline.html

Here's a link to a map and driving directions to the museum:

The few times I've been up the trail, I have parked on the street next to the museum.

See you at 4:30 am. I think that's the time Cy will be there too.
