:)~ hello, im new to the bulletin board here , new to the world of hiking out here in southern cali.
am interested in meeting new friends that may hit the trail periodically.
would actually like to set up moderate to extreme hikes on a quartely basis lets say every 3/4 months not necessarily always on the weekends.
i know by reading here some of you hit it just about everyother weekend,
my timing doesnt allow me to be that flexible yet.
if anyone has some insight for me please feel free to  me in.
thanx.

Do you strictly hike, or do you like running as well? We might take a shot at some trails this spring that I've never done. Say, Cottonwood to Mission Creek, maybe going on up over the San G Peak and down to Vivian. That would work out to some serious miles, probably in excess of 40. Long for a days run, but certainly could be fun. I don't really do overnighters, my backpacking days have been traded in for trail running, which I like a lot more, but we could still hook up for something extreme.

Did you have any specific trails you wanted to explore?

thanx :)
i got you on the back burner for this spring ok.
you are a literal lung , lol 40 miles... thats a good thing.
yup a real good days run. it will take me@min. to get up to that level.
the furthest i ever walked with gear is 30 miles, conditioning hike. the most i have ever run is 6.5 miles in like 1/2hr to 45min.
i do hike and run as well, but been out of circulation for a while, just now starting up again. no trails in mind, but looking at everything being discused here really opens my horizons, have been to a few links posted here since yesterday, all very good info, in the process of developing.
:?: any suggestions on where to start running and hiking graduall.

Hi there,

In the local Palm Springs area I would suggest the following hikes or hiking areas to get started with these trails which have enough travel on them to be well marked and give you a good chance of meeting others:

Bump n Grind for excercise
Araby Trail up and down for excersie
Lykenn Trail - Ramon to Round Valley Rock and back

Once you have those being accomplished you might add the following as your legs and lungs get better.
Lykenn Trail - South Cyn to above Mesquite and back
Shannon Trail up and over to Araby Trail for great views
Lykenn Trail - Ramon up to about 2100 - 2200 ft for more conditioning.

All of these can be accomplished as loop or up and back hikes. They also will give you a good chance of meeting others. Also check out the Coachella Valley Hiking Club at http://cvhikingclub.net/

Hope this helps.

plus your reccomendations, thank you much!
that pretty much sums up my research in a nut shell :)
plenty of trails to start and finish with & trail descriptions are on the money for future hikes with that one.
