looking for 4WD ride to Martinez Canyon trailhead Nov. 15

Postby bryankeith » Sun Nov 01, 2009 7:10 am

Two of us with backpacks are looking for a ride on the 4WD road to get to the Martinez Canyon trailhead. I have a ride arranged from PS to Indio, but that car will only get us as far as Van Buren and 66th (or anywhere else in Indio). Can anyone help out and get us the rest of the way? I'm willing to pay.

I realize that it wouldn't be hard to walk that section, but I'm already concerned about how much water we'll need to be carrying at the beginning of the trip. In a separate thread I'm trying to find out what water is available between that trailhead and hwy 74. If all the springs on my map are running, then this ride won't be so important. Thanks.

LMK when your leaving, I may be able to run you up the canyon if it works with my schedule. Sounds like a good walk.

I could probably help with this too. I'm in PS so if that's your starting point we could start from here. Let me know closer to your trip if you need a 4x4 lift. Your hike sounds interesting. I've hiked from Pinyon Flats down Martinez Canyon before but never up it.

As i think about it i realize i've been wanting to do some hiking up Martinez Canyon myself so driving you to the wilderness boundary would be no problem. Keep in touch re your plans.

Florian, thank you for the kind offer. I'd like to take up on it. My preference is to leave Palm Springs in the morning on Nov. 15. What time will work for you? Can you confirm this far in advance? Would you prefer to continue this thread in a PM?

Thanks so much, Florian. That worked out great for us. Walking from the pavement to the wilderness boundary would have added quite a few miles of not terribly interesting scenery to our hike.
