Full Moon Hikes - C2C

I've always thought a full moon hike up the Skyline Trail would be nice. Full moons for 2007 are:

# February 2nd, 12:45am - Friday

# March 3rd, 6:17pm - Saturday

# April 2nd, 1:15pm - Monday

# May 2nd, 6:09am - Wed.

# May 31st, 9:04pm - Thursday

# June 30th, 9:49am - Saturday

# July 29th, 8:48pm - Sunday

# August 28th, 6:45am - Tuesday

# September 26th, 3:45pm - Wed.

# October 26th, 12:52am - Friday

# November 24th, 9:30am - Saturday

# December 23rd, 8:16pm - Sunday

Thats the best time to go. Does this mean that you want to start at 12.45 am in February.

I'm thinking March 3rd might be better than Feb 2nd.

Thanks for the posting Kathy, very thoughtful. I hadn't realized that we had a full moon coming this weekend, so I'll probably make my starting time earlier to enjoy it. I think I'll go on the PCT towards San J instead of Skyline - that way if I have to turn around due to ice I won't have such a steep downhill coming back. The thought of slippery ice hidden under snow along the traverse sounds a little risky, but Skyline is tough coming back down. If you do Skyline, I hope the ice poses no problems for you.

By the way, I did the PCT out of Cottonwood last Saturday, and I see what you mean. I only went about 4 miles in, but I didn't see anything at all that had been burned. I'm guessing the burned area is probably farther north, but I don't know. I'll probably go from Cottonwood to Mission Creek sometime this spring (once the snow is gone) - I'll post pics of the area after I go.

FYI Perry,

The fullmoon always rises approx the same time as the sun sets (it's a monthly equinox if you will, so, for example, on April 2nd, the moon will rise at 7:26pm (taking DLS time into acct.).

This has worked for me the last 10 yrs.

Are you talking to me? Those appear to be theoretical times that have no useful meaning (especially if you can't see the moon). The dates are useful.

if the time is in the middle of the day there won't be much of a moon to see - I suppose the night before or night after would be the time to be out enjoying the full moon.
