Hi,
I'm new to this board, but I hike around in the SanJ area occasionally, and I did the granny trail from the tram last Sunday, the 21st.
The trail had a bit of ice from the ranger's station to the first creek crossing. You could dodge it easily enough though. After the creek, it quickly turned to all firm snow. Snow was increasingly deep as you went up, but nice to walk on, all the way to wellmans.
From wellmans heading east there was an increase in ice due to melt and refreeze, but the short section of trail that links Jean to SanJ was awesome. Really dry and cold, the snow was deep enough to posthole occasionally and was blowing around in the wind. Someone had gone through with snowshoes, maybe the day before, but I just had boots.
In the end I "summited" Miller Peak, just for something different. Temps all day ranged b/w 18-32deg.F.
I have a couple of photos that would illustrate, but don't see a way to upload them. If interested, let me know and I can email.
hth,
Jim
