Remember that post about the peak being 10804 or 10834?

Being bored with my achilles on the mend left me with some time to look over posts from the former year. This post ended with Bob posting the site address where San Jacinto is posted as 10,834ft instead of the 10,804ft posted most everywhere else(http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/636/files ... oSPmap.pdf). Also shown on that same map is the height as 3,293 meters. Converting 3293 meters to feet (1 meters = 3.2808399 feet) gives 10,803.8ft. Seems to support the idea of a typo on the map and not a recent survey change. My last trip to the summit in late Dec I had a Garmin 60CSx with me and spent about 20 minutes taking pictures. My track history shows readings from 10,801 to 10,815 during that time.

I remember the posting. I had taken my Garmin 305 up there when I did the PCT route, and it came up with 10815 to 10818 - which did nothing to resolve the matter. Like I had posted before I took it up, it usually reads to within a foot or two with San Gorgonio. Figures it would give a reading in the middle on San Jacinto. I think the metric conversion you mention is the strongest argument that it is actually a typo. Thanks for the post.
