Mt San Jacinto Hike

This Summer would like to hike Mt. San Jacinto. Will probably do the trip with the wife but would like to know if there are organized groups that travel in packs to the summit and where can I get more information on those groups?

I was up at mountain station on Wednesday morning and it was -6F of wind chill on the roof monitoring the weather station up there and all that junk. I saw trails that went into the Wilderness from the mountain station and most likely that would be the way to the Summit.

How long does it take to get there from mountain station and can it be done, starting morning, and getting there, then back by the time the last tram car leaves?

Would like to make it a safe trip, and travel with people ...

Dude! If you are serious you can scroll around on the already posted threads and check around on them. Based on what people say to you it sure sounds like you aren't gonna get much live advice. I hope I'm wrong, That's just my take.
If you are truly serious you can get a book about those trails at REI or some sports shop. I bet they even have one at the top of the tram. Just wait till the snow goes away and study stuff before you bring your family. Good luck

Well I would be new to it yes. Since I do provide for the tram, I'd like to start knowing more about the hiking and just get out of the city life for a day in the middle of nowhere.

Well at least he didn't ask what a "bivy" is without typing it into Google or following the dictionary links. Sounds like reasonable questions, and I try to keep an open forum here where people feel welcome to ask questions, especially if it's hiking information that relates directly or indirectly to safety.

The trail is about 11 miles round trip with 2,400 feet of climbing, 2,400 feet of descent. Right now it's covered in snow but usually is dry in the summer. Water is available at the 2nd Round Valley trail junction. The State Park used to have a trail map online, but they removed it. There are some basic ones at the gift shop. They are mainly useful if you stay on the trails and don't go cross-country. If you go exploring, the ranger station has topo maps.

I think the Outdoors Club, Sierra Club, and Coachella Valley Hiking Club do the tram-to-peak hike in the summer.

Hey! That's not nice. I was sincere when I asked that. You may not believe it but I really wanted to know. And I did look and was convinced that I could only find out by asking.

I know there are some similarities here but you can see that I treated this guy way better than I was. Frankly I don't see what he has done wrong. Just a sense of it because everybody is ganging up on him big time. (he bragged about being right about the weather??? WOW! lol (it's the weather )
If I knew more about the current trail conditions to give advice I would.
If you can't see that my response was positive then that would be a sad thing.

No problem. Most do it as a day hike, but some with an overnight stay in Round Valley or Tamarack.

Fight On its fine. It wasn't bragging. It's just a milestone I was excited to be a part of tram history for shutting down before an event, but still make the time window revenue for the attraction. It was safety and I just was very happy to be a part of what happened. Excitement, not bragging.

Day hike it is. I'd like to get there and then get back before the tram car goes down and I'm forced to sleep with the animals ...
