The strangest part about that lost hiker episode

Just a story that once again man is never a match against mother nature. Chances are he never even knew a storm was coming, or if he did he didnt think much of it or sicne he was an old timer didnt trust weather forecasters. It does appear he wasnt geared up with all of what he should have been, espeically if he was doing the crest trail not just Mt San Jacinto. I remember that storm, it dropped several feet of snow up in the high country, something that someone who is not from socal and isnt familiar with what weather is capbale of doing above the valley floor would probably get caught bu suprise in. All seems rather logical to me.

I was one of the peopie talking about you.First and formost I'm glad you and your girlfriend are safe.Honestly I believe that you didn't know what to expect.My main concern is that it doesn't happen again.Any input you can give as to what went wrong and how the situation could have been avoided would be appreciated.Possibly better signs around the tram station?More responsibility placed on the tour guide?
As for the lost hiker.Maybe he's where he wants to be?

6/1/2006: Riverside County Sheriff's Office has rescheduled the delayed search for John Donovan's body for this weekend. Due to the hazardous and remote nature of the area of his camp, search teams will be flown in by the Sheriff's Aviation Unit. We are all very hopeful that the search will be successful and that this will bring closure to the issue for all involved.

Human Remains Found May Be Those Of Missing Hiker
(CBS) IDYLLWILD, Calif. Human remains were found on Mount San Jacinto Sunday and were believed to be those of a male hiker missing for over a year.

John Donovan, 60, of Virginia, was reported missing on the Pacific Crest Trail in May 2005.

"We have spent many hours searching for him yet never found any sign in the last year," Pete Carlson of the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit said earlier.

Last month, Donovan's backpack was found by a pair of lost hikers about three miles from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Mount San Jacinto State Park, renewing interest in the search, said Deputy Juan Zamora of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

With the recent hot weather melting snow and ice off Mount San Jacinto, about 15 volunteers, two Riverside County Sheriff's Department search dogs and a helicopter searched Sunday near where the backpack was found, Zamora said.

They discovered the remains of a human body, believed to be Donovan's, about 100 yards from where the backpack was found, Zamora said.

The remains were turned over to the Riverside County coroner, he said.
