Thanks for the kind comments! And yes, the sunset was my favorite too.
About the snow- there was snow (and ice) right from the start, but then the trail wraps around to a side exposed by sun and then all the snow is gone for around half a mile. But then you reach the north side again, and then we used crampons for the rest of the day. It was pretty annoying to walk in because of people who had postholed previosly plus from the use. It was real easy to follow all the way up to Saddle Junction. We didn't post hole in this section, but past Saddle Junction, we would poke through a fair amount. You could have gotten by with out crampons, but it was real nice having them. But now with this new snow, the trail should be nicer (without all the holes), but I don't know how much snow we got yet. I should be going up to San Jacinto this Saturday or over to the San Gorgonio Area so I could give some more updates about the recent snow then.
