Tram to Idylwild

Postby A Pelican » Sat Sep 30, 2006 6:41 am

Myself and a group of friends from Flagstaff, AZ are planning a trip over there October 16th. We are staying in Palm Springs and want to hike from the tram to Idylwild. We have some people willing to do the shuttle for us...can you help with what trails to take. How far is it? Do we need a special permit and where do we get it? Thanks for your help

YOu will need a wilderness permit. THe self issue ones at the ranger station in Long Valley should be good enough. As for the trails to take, you really have more then one choice. The easiest is to head south through Hid den Divide and over to saddle junction and down to Humber Park. A more uphill way would be through Round Valley to Wellmen's Divide and then down coming out at either Humber Park or Deer Springs. A even harder way would be over San Jacinto Peak and then down and around coming out Deer Springs Trail Head. But however you decide to go, please bring a map of the trails so you don't make a wrong turn.

I forgot to log in before posting that.

You can find more information about the state park portion of the wilderness at http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=636
