Tram Road Challenge October 25th!

Postby zippetydude » Wed Aug 20, 2008 9:45 am

I saw Perry mentioned it in the thread below, so I thought I'd post it and see if anyone is going to be there this year.

I'm planning on going.

Perry, you running again this year? I hear Tanya Harding is working cheap nowadays if you want her to take a 2 x 4 to one of the knees of your vegan friend who snuck in just ahead of you last year!

Cy, I know you hike the Tram Road. Do you ever do this event?

Tina, you might like this. It's a real challenge.

Kathy, if you're back in town, is this an event you'd like?

Hikin Jim, any chance you'll bring the beautiful wifey and come out this way?

Ellen, you've been taking it entirely too easy lately, let's get some trainin' goin' on!

Walt, if you're still alive and out there, it'd be great to see you, you don't even have to bring barbecue!

guest, I don't think they've got the biking part going on anymore, do you do any running?

FIGHT ON, you could come out and represent USC. Ryan (from USC) had run this a couple of years ago. We need somebody to whup the Texans.

AlanK, if you and your son can make it, you're both fast and neither of you is afraid of hills! This might be fun.

Simonov, get your sister and niece and come on out!

I'm sure I missed a ton of good people, if I missed your name, come on out and introduce yourself in person at the event!

Incidentally, no, I don't work for the event. It would just be fun to meet a bunch of you in person.

Hope to see some of you there.

Tram road challenge - Oct 25th

Postby Cy Kaicener » Thu Aug 21, 2008 12:06 am

I will be there but I will not be racing, just walking and socialising. I will also hike up at 5 am and then go up again with the racers. This way I get 4200 feet of gain.

Zip: Thanks for posting about the challenge - I've never hiked/ran on the Tram Road, so I think I'll go give it a try before Oct 25 to see if the run/walk on the 25th is something I can do.

Is it 3.7 miles with 2100 feet gain? Does the race start at the bottom of the tram road and go all the way to tram station?

Hey, sounds good so far. Don't worry about the "running" part. The majority of people hike it as fast as they can, with a sputtering jog here and there. Perry, of course, runs it, but he's hardly typical. If you look at the results from last year

http://www.kleinclarksports.com/tramroa ... ll2007.htm

you can get a good idea of what I'm saying. (Notice who finished in the top two!) The average per/mile pace varied from 8 minutes to 27 minutes - this is not your typical run. More than anything else, it's just fun to be part of the action and to meet new people and see friends.

By the way, FIGHT ON, USC will win easily, so you need not worry about them.

Howdy Z,

"Ellen, you've been taking it entirely too easy lately, let's get some trainin' goin' on!"

Ha, ha :-) Well, at least I won't have to worry about being turned around due to inclement weather. Group events are fun -- one of the reasons I like the Pike's Peak Ascent.

I'll think about hiking it. Late October is also a good time of year to hike Skyline.

I've entered the Mt. Baldy Run to the Top. It just so happens that I turn 55 on September 1, the day of the race :-)

Howdy Kathy,

Thanks for the YouTube video featuring our own Grandmaster Perry. Woo Hoo!!!

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

I'll be there! Training is another tactic for winning. T-r-a-i-n-i-n-g.
