Update on June 27 Get Together

Pork Butts are smoking and right after work is over I start drinking beer and watching to make sure the smoke does it job. Usually takes 14 hours or 24 beers. Which ever one come first. Of yeah...I'll be hiking BBQ Style tomorrow...Low, slow and carrying beer!

Did anyone else notice in that first pic of Ellen's with all the scouts the kid in the foreground with the can of spray cheese?! I'd think that might almost be dangerous at 10k+ foot elevation.

OK, I'm "in." Hopefully that's OK this late.

I cut a deal with my wife to cancel some hiking plans next month so that I can come tomorrow. She was pretty insistent that I not go.

So: Good news, bad news. I am coming, but my wife (Michiko) is not. She's a bit shy. I think the real issue though in this case is that she is 6+ months pregnant and doesn't want to travel and such.

What can I bring?

I see we're short on beer...

Here's proof of the hordes on San Jacinto last Saturday. Karin took the picture of our Fuller Ridge group. I didn't even get to touch the sign

I saw your group just below little round valley when I was coming down Saturday. I started at 5:30 and didn't see anyone on the way up or on the summit. Waking up at 3:30 pays off sometimes!

Hey, Jim, I'm glad you can make it! I don't blame Michiko a bit, traveling while pregnant is (according to my wife) most unpleasant. Still, let her know my family was hoping to meet her . . .perhaps after the baby is born you could swing by as a family, drop off the wife and critter, and you and I and some of the crazy hikin' fools from the board here could hit the trails. See you tomorrow.

Oh, you asked what you could bring. Yes, beer is always good. I got an email from Cy and something has come up, so he won't be able to make it. He was going to bring a fresh fruit salad or something like that. If that's convenient for you, you could bring that. Otherwise, just about anything will be fine.

I got an email thru to SS and work is going to keep him from joining in. He said to tell everyone hello and hopes to see a few more of us on the trail.

I'll be there. Just got back from a few 'fun' days in beautiful Oakland . 6AM at the Mill Creek Ranger station, the guy with the straw hat. If I'm cutting it too close while driving out there I'll just go directly to the trailhead (7AM start?). Picked up a small case of Fat Tire and some sodas (never want to risk running short of beer, do we?).

Walt: Thanks for checking with ss. He's a ton of fun, hope he can make the next one. I like your timeframe comment with the smoker . . . "whichever comes first!"

phydeux: Sounds good. Not to worry on the timing. I think we'll actually be at the trailhead about 6:30, trying to allow more leisure time after the hike, but there will be different people with different paces, and it'll all work out fine in the end.

If you're crippled and lame, then my pace oughta be about about right. After laying off for 6 mos, it hurts to go hiking.

Will pick up some fruit salad after work.
