Doing the 50 miler. Will be going up Friday morning so I can "thoroughly hydrate" in a local pub the night before.

Just out of curiosity, does Palm Springs (or the local town) allow alcoholic drinks in their parks?

Kathy and Zip: arggh! What could possibly be more important than driving to Palm Springs to drink beer out of a paper bag in public park?

Phydeux: Palm Spring's public beer-drinking ordinances are as follows: it's okay if it's Stella Artois, Red Hawk's India Pale Ale, or English Stout. Light beer and Miller are strictly forbidden.

But seriously Phy... thanks for the reminder, I should check and find out. I don't anticipate, though, that six middle-aged hikers are gonna get too riotous and out of control, especially not on two six-packs of imported beer--which is all I've bought on the theory that it's highly unlikely anyone will drink more than one, if at all. And Victoria Park is very large and usually quite empty. But, if somehow we do manage to run wild in a dotty, antiquarian way, can we get you to come and round us all up? (Did I just imagine it, or do you do something in law enforcement?) Are you coming, btw? MW's que is reputed to be food for the Gods ....

Well, crud. We can't make it out this time. The wedding is less than a month away (Apr 5), and we still need to nail down some final stuff. We're meeting with the pastor Saturday afternoon. I tried to get him to meet with us after church on Sunday, but ... well, let's just say he was really really nice about it, but the answer was "no."

Dang. And now my plans for sardine tasting and a cream of chicken soup cook off are ruined.

I concur with Cynthia -- I'm going to really miss seeing those of you who can't come Come on y'all -- Walt and I can't drink all that beer by ourselves

About the only upside is that this means we'll have to throw another party. I can't even begin to describe the incredible taste of Walt's barbecue

Ellen: I might be able to swing by for a few minutes early on, but I don't consider that really attending. Besides, I bet you and Magicwalt CAN drink all that beer!

Cynthia: No one will drink more than one . . . six pack? . . . case? . . . keg?

HikinJim: On my wedding day, my friend was driving me to the wedding, and he pulled over, looked at me and said, "This car can go both north and south. We can keep going, and we'll be at the church in 2 minutes. Or, we can turn around, and be drinking beer in Tijuana in 2 hours. It's your call." I chose to stay. (For you, I guess it would have been simpler - "Michiko or Mexico?"! ) I hope all your plans are coming along smoothly, and I hope to see the two of you on the trail one of these fine days.

Incidentally, on one of my trail runs, I passed a couple walking towards SF Meadows with a picnic basket and a bottle of wine. Now, I love trail runs - but I bet he had more fun than I did that day!

Amen to Walt's BBQ. You guys don't know how much I'd like to do a nice de-stress at Victoria Park. And of course I want to see everyone.

That's it! I'm buying a helicopter so I can drop by more easily. That four hour round trip is a killer.

Obviously I've been too busy at work. First to the drinking allowed in the parks. Please...They're busy trying to solve real crimes!

What kind of beer is allowed is being consumed?? OPB (Other Peoples Beer) and Newcastle Brown Ale. After 3 years in northern Scotland I'll be damned if I'm drinking Coors Light (unless the Newcastle runs out).

"I don't think Ellen and Walt can drink it all..." please, don't be ridicules. Ellen or I can drink it all...but we will share if you're there.

Possiblity of Perry having food taken over to the gallery...emmm...sure hope that Ellen doesn't drink too much and can drive.

Come on folks, its a fun event without too much strain. Show up and meet some new people to hike with or get info about hiking from. Share some stories..."What is life outside the desert like?"

Don't worry about what you look like or how you hike. I assure you that at almost 300lbs I am the largest and widest trail breaker out there. Its always great to meet the names I see on the site and the lurkers that visit.

Hope to see you all new and old. Please though say your name so we all know how many to expect. I am figuring for 16 right now.
