Yeah, it's possible the guy was framed, either by a trespasser or a guest of the party, for whatever reason. Or maybe an electrician made a mistake.

The fire has affected me also, I was very sad last week, but I haven't had much time to participate in the discussion.

Future of the Forest

Postby Wildhorse » Mon Jul 29, 2013 8:38 pm

Two articles, one from UT San Diego and the other from NPR, describe different futures for the forest after the fire. The first is optimistic, and the second, like those posted by Arocknoid, is not.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/jul ... tain-fire/

http://www.npr.org/2013/07/29/206691725 ... e-to-fires

I hope the first foretells the future, but fear the second will be true.

Thanks for those links Wildhorse! Both very interesting and I recommend everyone should read them.

Just came back from a couple of days in Idyllwild. On the way back down (on 243/74) could see the burnt area quite clearly this time (earlier in the week, it was all hidden by rain and cloud cover.) I must say that seeing how large the area is was very sobering. :(

InciWeb reports the fire fully contained this afternoon ...

San Bernardino, Calif., July 30, 2013 – Fire officials declared the Mountain Fire 100% contained at 6:00 P.M. tonight. Residents and visitors may occasionally see smoke towards the north end of the fire, due to the heavy fuels smoldering within the perimeter of the fire.

A Burned Area Response Team (BAER) is conducting a rapid assessment of the fire area. The BAER team is assessing the fire damage to determine if immediate actions are necessary. Actions may include work to help stabilize soil; control water, sediment and debris movement; prevent impairment of ecosystems; mitigate significant threats to health, safety, life property and downstream values at risk.

Portions of the San Jacinto Ranger District including the San Jacinto Wilderness remain closed to public use. The Pacific Crest Trail north of State Highway 74 to Snow Creek is closed to public use. Mt. San Jacinto State Park is closed in all areas except for Idyllwild State Campground and Stone Creek Camp Ground. Oh, that just plain sucks. I hope the tires go flat on them and that a swarm of bees chases them.

Talked with Jeanette at the Indian Canyon tollgate this morning. Canyons are still closed but they are hoping to reopen sometime next week. Their closure is mostly due to flashflood damage to the road plus some concerns with ash laden runoff fouling the creeks.

Thanks Florian for all your updates. BTW, as of this Monday, the Ernie Maxwell trail in Idy was still closed--I went by the TH.

Sorry to hear about your bike. Seeing as how you are arocknoid, hopefully your spidey senses will help you catch the thieves, just like flies.

Today I did find who stole my bike. I had a hunch, and upon questioning him, he confessed. The bike is gone now ($$), and I am more disappointed and dismayed at the young man than angry. With time and repayment the irritation will subside; while he may be forgiven, there is an old Spanish saying which translates loosely to: "Trust, like the soul, once gone, never returns."

I'm really looking forward to some mountain time this weekend.
