The potluck turned out to be a huge success, with at least 15 people in attendance! It was a spread fit for hungry hikers. My chili must have been good because it got all eaten up! Hikin' Jim cooked up omlettes and muffins. And many others brought lots of great things to eat too. It was a noisy party with lots of laughter and conversation. These crazy hikers were all jabbering away at the same time!

Thank you everyone for showing up and making this such a fun event. And special thanks to my husband Larry for taking the pictures.

Wow! I'm glad there was a good turnout, wish I could have been there. Maybe do this again in about 6 weeks, just before the first snow? HJ could bake a turkey with the patented "Hikin' Jim's Backpacking Mega-Oven" and we could do a trail Thanksgiving! Thanks Sally and Sally-hubby for the pics!

HJ, you should begin purchasing shotguns now. I can tell you this as the father of 4 beautiful girls. I kept hoping they would turn out ugly, but no luck. You're headed down the same path, my friend. What a little cutie!

Lot's of fun! Got to meet John and Vicky (Vicki?). Got to see Fern, Sally, and Ellen all of whom I hadn't seen for a while and Cynthia who I hadn't seen in ages. Got to meet Sally's hubby Larry who took some great photos like this one where little Joycie seems to be saying "what, dad? Search me who ate all the chips."


Got to also meet HH8 and Perry A with whom I had corresponded many times online but had never acutally seen in the flesh.

It was also nice to get up there where it was about 70F instead of 100+ F where I live.

The only tense moment was when Ellen threatened to do herself harm if we served sardines.


Lots of good eating; lots of good times!

P.S. Thanks to all who helped out with Joycie so I could cook. Thanks, everyone for being a willing audience for my cooking experiments.

Ha! Maybe a very small Cornish game hen would fit. That's a 1300ml pot I'm using as my "oven". The real story behind the stoves here was Sally. Because of her connections, I had a) fuel for the muffin baking set up and b) this wonderfully controllable stove that was perfect for all the omelettes:

That red tank you see to the right of Joyce is from the stove that Sally hooked me up with. THANK YOU, SALLY.

She is a little cutie, and quite sweet. I'm sure I'll regret her looks when she's a teenager, but loving it for now.
