Message Board Get Together?

General Palm Springs area.

Postby Hikin_Jim » Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:05 am

Hi, Donnie. What time are you guys going to start? It may be fairly hot this Saturday. The NWS is currently predicting http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=sgx&smap=1&textField1=33.83028&textField2=-116.54444.

I hope I'm not sounding too worry wart here, but it's not uncommon for people to get into trouble on Skyline, and heat injuries can be quite serious. Better perhaps to discuss preparation on this forum in advance rather than encounter problems on the route where you don't have a lot of options!

Cy's done that route a gazillion times, I'm sure he'd be a good person to bounce some ideas off of.

Aargh! No matter how I try to escape, I keep running into people who want to go up Skyline for the first time in July!!!

Donnie: please do not be offended, but reread all the posts we have written in which we strongly suggest people (no matter how fit) not attempt C2C for their first time in the summer months. I recently created a post on this subject. It really is a dangerous thing to do. Leading a large group is even worse.

MagikWalt: I am so sorry, but I can't make the barbecue this Saturday! I am going to be leaving town earlier than I had thought (will be in Sierras for a week.) I will be having my get-together in late September or Early October, so hopefully I can meet you all then ....

Hi Cynthia and Jim,
Thank you both for your concerns. I appreciate your thoughts. Cynthis, this is not my first time doing C2C in the heat. I hike C2T repeatedly throughout the year because it is an incredible conditioning hike that is convenient and close to home. And the best part is I dont have to do much downhiking. I have more concerns about this trail when I hike it in Winter with ice.
Cheers, Donnie

Lets not get this post hijacked into another topic.

Donnie - Your welcome to attend. Please bring whatever you would like to drink and something to share.

I have copied all the associated post to a new posting so that everyone can beat you up for wanting to hike this Saturday. Perhaps you should mention your 11,300ft single day accent from the Badwater area of Death Valley.

Hi Walt,
Thanks for the official Invite. I will bring something very cold to drink and something healthy to share: My hikers special pasta salad with fresh veggies. My better half might come along too...

I'm going to bring green salad. Hopefully that will complement the pasta salad.

Thanks Cy,

There are so many I don't have contacts for that I'm sure do to the heat aren't probably checking in on the board very often.

Mmmmmm...The neighbors are starting to complain about that smell. They only complain when they're worried there won't be enought to pass some over the fence. I told them it would be ready about 7:00am tomorrow.

I'm sure looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
