PCT to tram this Friday

General Palm Springs area.

I'm very curious what happened to her at the beginning. She sent her first trailhead track at 3:45 and didn't get anywhere on the trail until about 3 hours later. Odd.

Uh oh. What determines when the SPOT sends out a signal? There seems to be a fair amount of variance.

Whew! She's back on track.

This woman needs her own reality show.

That's what I thought too. I just sent her a text message to that effect. I hope she gets my text.

Pretty easy to get turned around on that danged rock pile, especially in the dark.

I agree. I am headed for the liquor cabinet now that I know she is back on track.

OK, yep, I see plot 39. Hallelujah!

It appears that she's making a beeline down the face of Miller although that could be just due to the broadcast interval of the SPOT. Looks like she's about to have a rematch with those demonic cougars...

Is she on Sid Davis? Looks likes she's going straight down hill.

Based on Plot 40, it look like she's on the trail (the great switch back).

The way a SPOT works is going to make things look like a straight line when in fact she is probably following the trail.

She called me a little after 5:00 this morning. She didn't know the PCT followed the road, so she had tried to go up, probably on the old route. She ended up backtracking and finding the correct route, but only after some lost time and extra distance.

She'll be at 33+ miles at the tram.

If her progress slows, I can be at the tram in about 30 minutes. If she looks like she's going to miss the tram, I'll pop out there with some sleeping bags, hand warmers and some mixture containing alcohol. She won't be out there alone.

Incidentally, 41 looks like she's sticking to the trail.

Go Ellen! I had a slight case of insomnia this AM (about 4:00) and couldn't resist checking up on you. The track sure looked wacky at the beginning of the hike. Then I checked up on you again before work at about 8:30. I was going crazy all day at work wondering where you were until I couldn't stand it any more and begged my boss to let me use his computer. It was as though I was going through some kind of withdrawal!
I was anxious that it was almost dark and you were just nearing LRV, but at the same time I was relieved that I was going to get to see you finish. Thank you for letting us go on this virtual hike with you!

Go go go!
