I think what makes some consider a certain comment a troll is the tenor of the comment and the apparent lack of facts to support the premise. Also, if you are attempting to have an intelligent discussion, you do not start it by saying, "You people just don't get it".
To my knowledge, this board has been fairly consistent in protecting places that are in need of special treatment. Personally, I do not feel that the Eastern face of San Jacinto is in need of such protection. I may be wrong. I'll look at the facts when they're are presented to me.
As for the Bighorn Sheep, I have seen a lot of hypocrisy in regards to the management of this animal and am a bit cynical whenever they are mentioned.
They allow continued development at Mirada, which is a known lambing area but talk about the impact of hikers in areas the sheep seldom frequent; in considering the rarity of the animals the number of sheep in Mexico are never considered; the impact of livestock grazing is always underestimated and I think to a certain degree there is continued employment for those managing these animals the worse off the sheep appear to be.
One of my favorite conversations with a Fish and Game person was just after he talked about the negative impact of hikers, he talked about how great it was to net the sheep from a helicopter in order to tag them and install radio devices. OK, so hiking quietly near a sheep is bad but chasing them with a helicopter, dropping a net on them, drugging them and wrapping something around their neck is good.
Maybe the (not) troll is right: I'll never understand wildlife management.
