Well, it wasn't that much hands. My phrasing may have been substandard. Just a few tall up-steps over or around awkward talus that required a hand or two to stabilize or negotiate a turn - for that final push above the Crag. Maybe my pack weight/center of gravity necessitated the hands. But not a full-on Class 3, it wasn't an all-fours climb. Didn't mean to create confusion on that. Maybe we followed someone's shortcut route and there was a better-worn path ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It certainly was a route with short switchbacks though I do remember that. I just found it surprising how the trail roughness suddenly changed at the Traverse to the top after being so smooth and gentle (despite steepness), no biggie just a personal observation.
Indeed, that pacing map was very useful and my main go-to. Well done on that!
Thanks for the tip on Snow Creek zippetydude and feedback! Though, I wonder... is the fact that you can see your car the whole time just torturous "mirage" on the way down?

You are right-on about watching the time. I am in full agreement: the journey, not the destination. Reviewing my SPOT data helped put the trip into perspective. Indeed I was starting to check the time more often from Round Valley, almost chronically after Wellmans. A night at the tram wasn't sounding too hot despite the weather being nice. Though, we didn't sleep well the night prior so I may have well just crashed for 9 hours no problem. Oh, and that cement path is just cruel hah.
Thanks Scott! Wow, good decision - I'm sure even a bit harder by being closer. 40 minutes sounds very close for comfort, that's about what I was looking at had I continued! Did you find yourself running back down to make it in time? That was a scenario I wasn't particularly looking forward to in the dark after my legs being shot. I'd love to hear the story on that.
