State Park closure October 2007

A lot of it depends on the weather, so it's hard to guess when it'll reopen. I heard maybe next week for top of the tram, but I don't know if that's reliable or not.

It's raining!!! I'm in Yucaipa, and it's raining lightly here. Doesn't look like enough to open the forest, but any little bit will help the fire suppression efforts. Hope it's raining in Crestline, Arrowhead, and all those affected areas.

Rained over here in Tujunga too. Not much, but definitely rain. Hopefully the humidity alone will help with suppression efforts.

I haven't been up the Tram during this recent closure, or to be honest during other closures due to extreme fire danger. I have hiked San Jacinto maybe 50 times. But I find it somewhat comical that the authorities have closed down the National Park for hiking, but have chosen to keep the Cash Cow Palm Springs Tram open which leads into the closed area.

If you take your family up the Tram, and you have day packs on which were only going to be used to explore the immediate area exiting the Tram, how far are you allowed to explore? Are there signs? Lines?

Sure you can go up the Tram, get a bite to eat and a drink or two in places that are still open and happy to take your money.

It seems to me that if they allow the Tram to stay open (for obvious revenue gain) they should set up some sort of unmistakable line that you can't cross, otherwise you know you are in violation of the closure.

Or maybe they should just close down the Tram when they make these closures. Probably never gonna happen. High fire danger in the area?Close down the Tram to stop people from coming up and possibly starting fires in the high fire area.

On the tram, one is only allowed on the back patio. One is not allowed to proceed even 10 ft. down the cement walkway, let alone get into Long Valley.
