Here's something interesting: I've never seen a snake in Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert, or La Quinta. I've only seen them in Palm Springs. Any explanations?

As far as the expense of snakebite treatments, I'm convinced that the whole medical industry is full of price fixing, elimination of competition, and surprise expenses all in the name of quality-control, safety, and professionalism. Why is it that I can get a pair of reading glasses for $10 at a grocery store, but prescription glasses run about $75 with a $75/year doctor visit?

I don't know, Grandmaster P. But it looks like now, in addition to a meteorologist, we need an ophthamalogist to weigh in. We also need a geologist to validate MY favorite geological fantasy, which is that a massive earthquake causes the Sea of Cortez to gush (slowly! so no one gets hurt) back into the Coachella Valley, thus turning my house in Cat City into beachfront property.

Perry, I've seen rattlesnakes in 1,000 Palms and Indio.

I've seen Rattlers in Indio, PS, LQ, Indio Hills, Snow Creek, Joshua Tree and on the Cactus Spring Trail. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Im actually there with Hal on the sitings..except im not sure if my Indio (south of I-10) snakes might not have beeen vista santa rosa snakes..definitely indio on north side of I-10 though...ive had rattlers in my yard in LQ.

Looks like a southern pacific ? those guys are usually nice and fat.

Perry, I've seen them pretty much throughout the valley in the last twenty years, the ones that have really scared me were the sidewinders during my years roaming through the sand dune areas of the valley.

I think it would be cool to see a sidewinder, the way they move is fascinating.

Perry, if you would like to see more rattlers, take a few runs on the PCT from Snow Creek to Fuller Ridge. I've seen them there at around 9:00 a.m. about half of my trips, and I bet they're out in force in the evenings as well...which is why I mostly do that trail on very cold winter days.
