SJ volunteers booted out of tram station ...

General Palm Springs area.

Postby momphrare » Tue May 27, 2014 5:26 pm

Sorry to hear about the boots sally I hate misplacing things.

Ellen the volunteers are still able to work at the state park nothing has changed for them. I've worked with a few of them and they are still trying to do everything they can with interruptive hikes as well as working the store and giving information to the public.

They just said that they can't sell things that compete with the Tram's store which was stated in the contract for the store to be there. Apparently they have just been selling more and more throughout the years and no one said anything so they just continued doing it until now.

The extra funds going to the State Park will be missed, but will just have to wait and see how they deal with it.

quick question...if you go for first time now and want to buy a summer/season pass that includes parking....do you have to pay first for parking then go buy the pass and show them you paid for parking...?
??

Ha! Ever the Pi man. I was just talking about you with one of the SGWA guys over at Mill Creek RS on Monday.

I don't know the drill with the tram and the parking deal. I very rarely take the tram. I'd just call 'em and ask. Get it straight from the horse's mouth.

Tramway parking is included in the summer pass. I assume with yearly pass as well. But the tollbooth is not yet open so no parking charge for day user as of 5/27.

Howdy Pi :)

It is great to see you on the board again 8) I was hoping you weren't cougar bait  Sally and I want to like to hike your "Four Tenors" this summer or fall. Also appreciated your posts on the Vivian TH gate issue before they were removed

Love the Death Valley photos. I've never been there -- maybe next spring.

I hear you on the weather being too hot for lower elevation hikes. Sally and I have been starting at 5 AM. Getting up is a PITA but it's worth it to have cooler weather. We're always surprised at the number of folks who are heading up as we're heading down -- especially in Mt. Baldy and the Cucamonga wilderness.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

thanks for update Florian..as of 6/11/2014 the parking border crossing checkpoint charlie was non-operational.
Tram employee said 'they' still were not sure how they were going to charge....seems they just built it just in case they want to charge.
However, it is quite effective in confusing people and causing a traffic hazard.

Ellen, DVNP should be called the Great Basin, Range, and Dune Park!
driving down the Owens Valley I've always looked east and wondered what lie o'er there.
Death Valley gets too much credit!
...Saline Valley hot springs were most awesome, Eureka Valley blew my mind.
Eureka Sand Dunes just really blew my mind, especially as I came from Saline Valley up Dedeckera Canyon/Steele Pass & could just see dune tops from the pass.
never seen entire fields of Globe Mallow and such
Image

I'm going back next year to hike up them!
the bloom was record, in Saline & Eureka. but nothing in Death Valley itself...
