Colored lights on skyline?

General Palm Springs area.

I was out in Martinez Canyon the other day exploring an old Indian Trail and didn't see one light out there. I guess if you don't want lights, move out from the city.

I doubt the person who planted the lights intended for them to be a new permanent fixture. I just thought they were a cool mystery that did no permanent harm. Remember, I'm the guy who knocks down cairns. I don't think adding things to hiking areas unnecessarily is a good practice but doing something fun like those lights is occasionally an enjoyable endeavor. I just wish I'd thought if it myself.

I was up a little past the first rescue box on Friday--I have to say that the toilet paper situation was better (only one sighting which I buried.) Do we have Florian and his chopsticks to thank? :)

btw, someone drank half of each bottle of Gatorade in the rescue box. They left the water bottle and a tiny bit of TP.

How considerate of them to leave some for someone else.

You know what would be cool? Motion sensor cameras -- like the ones they use to get photos/videos of bobcats, deer, etc. A camera hidden in the brush somewhere. I'm just really curious what kind of idiots are taking things out of the Rescue boxes.

im just curious how you dealt with what you saw Cynthia, did you combine them into one bottle and take out the empty or did you leave them both assuming someone would come and top them both off?

no disrespect or sarcasm here, im honestly trying to figure out how all of us are viewing the boxes.

I know you have put and do put tremendous effort into the rescue boxes Steve (and continue to do so.) It must be extremely frustrating to see people misuse them. I truly applaud you and the others involved for putting out this effort so unselfishly.

But to be quite honest with you, I have never thought the rescue boxes were a good idea, precisely because they are just subject to abuse like the above. It seems like caring, responsible hikers like Steve are going to a lot of trouble to carry up fluids for selfish, irresponsible hikers who simply uses them as caches. Personally, I would not do it. At least from my perspective, it doesn't seem that the boxes work for their intended purpose, extremely well-intentioned though it was. I reported on the condition of the box, though, because I know others here do care about them and I thought it might be useful to you.

I'm not sure why you think I should have combined the two used Gatorades--wouldn't that be unsanitary and dangerous?

A ranger in Wildwood State Park by my house has gotten thousands of pics of bears, raccoons, deer etc. from his camera by a spring. Seems like it would be all too easy HJ. And effective. Only we wouldn't get pics of wildlife. We'd get pics of wild turds. Maybe that explains why the TP was still there!
