Hello. I'm new to this forum. Will the group proceed to the peak of San Jacinto or is the tram the destination? Also, for those who may decide to go on to the peak, given this year's snow conditions, do you think it will be necessary to carry snow shoes and/or microspikes?

I did the C2C a couple weeks ago and finished the last part in microspikes and hiking poles..probably not the best choice but worked ok..

As Z-dude pointed out, we're happy to have Skyline first timers join us

I'm planning to start at 1 AM and will likely stop at the tram. The greyhounds (fast folks) will probably start later, say 3 to 4 AM. Last year we arrived at Grubbs Notch (entrance to Long Valley) at around the same time and had fun goofing off at bit. The first tram down is at 8 AM for those who want to head home early.

I may bail if the starting temperature in Palm Springs is over 80 degrees. Even in the dark, the warm weather takes a toll.

The average low for that date is 62, so I bet we'll be okay. Incidentally, are most people starting at 1:00, or will everyone be starting at different times?

2 of us from redlands plan on being there and plan on a 1am start. We did it last year and then completed a C2C in August. This one we're hoping for cool weather as we want to do an up and back down Skyline. If it's too hot, I'm riding the tram down. I know it's pretty hard to turn around and head back down with a perfectly good tram and ice cold beer right there but it's one of those things we want to accomplish. Looking forward to a fun hike!

Regarding start times:

I think it would be fun if everyone started out at a time that would put us all popping out at Grubbs Notch at about 8:00 AM. So, an 8 hr Skyliner could start at midnight, a 7 hr Skyliner at 1 AM, the Greyhounds (~ 4 hr Skyliners) could start at 4 AM.
