Howdy All,

Weather report for Saturday indicates 70% chance of snow on the summit of San J with a possible accumulation of 2 to 4 inches. Sunday shows a slight chance of snow.

Bottom line -- if we want to do the PCT hike, it should be tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday.

As I'm self-employed, I can go either day. Anyone interested?

We'll watch the weather reports, absolutely... so far, okay. And still very pleasant in Idyllwild, so we just have to get up the bottom part before roasting.

Howdy Davidalynn

I recommend starting in the dark, say 3 AM. The PCT takes forever to gain altitude, so when the sun comes up, you won't be very high. The raidiant heat is intense now, so even if the air temperature isn't very warm, you'll bake. The bottom part of the PCT is also very overgrown -- I recommend wearing pants.

Last fall, Z-dude left a stock of apricot nector and water before the Fuller Ridge trailhead. That saved my butt big time. Consider leaving a cache somewhere near the Fuller Ridge tralhead.

Snow on the Fuller Ridge trail could make route finding difficult.

I'll be going up with a group this November.

Yeah, and you'll shock the heck out of the other hikers on the trail if you don't. :shock:

Oh, and it's easy to recognize Ellen on trails without brush. :oops:

Thanks for the tip on the pants, I'll try to avoid scaring other hikers.

We've got a shorter-option group going from Fuller Ridge, so they'll have cars and resupply there (and that's where we'll finish).

I believe Z-Dude was the one that created the original impetus for this adventure, via Brian Cox who he dragged up one day, so we've got his tips in mind.

Sounds like the snow is lightening up, I'm more scared of icy trails than heat....

Hey, I just noticed this old thread had been resurrected! I love the PCT and it seems like I'm always trying to drag someone up there! You mentioned Brian, sounds like maybe you know him personally?...if so, how's that guy doing? I haven't seen him since we did that trip.

Hopefully someone that has gone up from Marion can give you some feedback, as that back section up high might be problematic. Good luck, and post pics if you get a chance.
