Indeed. Yesterday on the Baldy Ski Hut Trail I shared a conversation with Shin. Most of you who do much hiking around Baldy probably know him or have seen him. He has climbed Baldy over 100 times in the last few years. Clearly he does it for the exercise.

Climbing Baldy for exercise sure beats the hell out of running on a treadmill for exercise, IMHO.

Hikin_Jim, If that is true it would be a sad thing. There is only one thing to do about this. Everybody should plan and go on more hikes, post more trip reports in detail, make more new friends, develop camaraderie and INVITE HER TOO. If that doesn't change her then it will either drive her crazy or drive her away. :D

Exactly - most of us have learned this the hard way.

Oh, yeah. You were criticized by our favorite troll (Crystal from the Whitney Board under his/her latest id) for a perfectly reasonable post you made on the Whitney Board. Since you have not been around here lately, one of your friends was trying to stick up for you. That's what friends are for, after all. :D

I am wondering if it would be worthwhile/helpful to write a short GENERAL info post on trolls. From talking to some people on this board I realize that many are Internet-Innocent Souls who, having spent their life out hiking, have little idea what computer trolls are or how to deal with them. On the other hand I don't want to encourage further problems. Thoughts?

"Jennifer" won't be posting again. It's very rare to have trolls on the hiking and climbing forums, and to my knowledge, this is the worst person on the California boards. That's pretty good compared to other venues on the Internet where bigger and more persistent problems occur. We really don't have much problems here because most of the people here are good company and make an effort to be respectful. I think the positive theme, the localness (making friends in person) and the effects of outdoor exercise have something to do with this.

Perry -- I agree with you. I don't know why someone would want to be a troll on these boards, but there has to be one, I guess. Diligence by board moderators like yourself is critical. I also like the informal zero tolerance policy of many of the regular contributors, especially on this board. There is no reason to let one sick unit spoil a great thing!

Time to "FIX" the Skyline Trail

Postby Rick M » Sun Apr 06, 2008 5:14 pm

Torbin said on Snow on Skyline? post
I also did some initial surveying of another potential route to the top. While doing that I recovered a lost cell phone [Casio-Verizon in a blue AWP belt clip cover] and a red climbing rope. Those appeared connected to a fall some time ago. When I find out the owner of the phone, I will report the story behind it. Hopefully there is not a dead body up there.

I would be willing to help scout out another route for the upper Skyline that could be used as an alternative for the winter that hopefully might be easier to follow or might be safer in the avent of a fall or perhaps more south facing so the snow doesn't linger as long (maybe traverse the southeast facing side above Long Valley Creek). This would have to be something that gets looked at come next winter to check to see how and where the snow accumulates. Anyone interested? Torbin? State Park? Am I barking up too tall a tree?
