PCT

General Palm Springs area.

The next section of the PCT I want to do is from 74 south to Table Mountain and back out again - Ferranti's book "140 Great Hikes near Palm Spings" says there are California Golden Poppies along that route in late March/early April, so in about 3 weeks I'm going to go check it out. That's a fairly gentle section - probably would make a nice run on a cool day.

Hey, Wasatchie! Got the first part of the trail (8 miles up, of an up & back trip) linked below.

Notice towards the end of the photos, the pics of the warning signs. Not to worry, they have no intention of keeping people off the PCT. Apparently, years ago people used to go up to Snow Creek Falls, (a beautiful area) and leave Budweiser cans and used disposable diapers in the water. They've closed the area, but encourage PCT users, and are actually very positive.

If you go more than 12 miles up (24 round trip) you may run into snow. Otherwise, it'll be smooth trail the whole time.

One caveat: Keep your eyes peeled for rattlers. It's a beautiful trail, but there are snakes frome time to time, so be careful in the slightly overgrown areas. If you'll post the actual date you want to run, I might be able to go with, and we might even encourage some to these Skyline specialists to branch out and try a beautiful trail that's just a few miles from their usual stomping grounds. Incidentally, I prefer Saturdays, very early (5:00 a.m.) so it may work out real nicely.

zippetydude - Sorry for the delay. We left for California last weekend to take the family to Disneyland/beach ect. Haven't had access to a computer for a week. We are in Palm Springs now. I went for a run on the goat trails Saturday evening when we got in. I hit the Wild Horse trail from the goat trails and went up to some peak with picnic tables on top. I would love to do the PCT but not sure if I will have the time. I have a conference to attend so will go out early mornings for an hour. There is a slight possibility for a longer evening run but that would be hard with my family with me.

Thanks for posting the pics. Makes me want to run it really bad. I'll post if I can shake loose for a two or three hours one day.

The peak you climbed is called Murray Peak. It has one of the best views in Palm Springs.
