General Palm Springs area.

I'll make the coffee and french toast. We'll need to have fresh squeezed juice too - I probably can handle that task too.

The French are going to be involved in this operation...forget it. I just can't get into having a team that preprints their surrender flags.

Okay, excellent suggestions all, but I see no mention of the prime mover: BEER. Does anyone remember if the Sugarloaf already had a liquor license? Cuz as I see it, booze, and those MW cinnamon buns, are going to be what keeps the locals coming in.

You know, this idea is so crazy, it just might work ....or then again ....

Yes, the Cafe had a liquor license AND Sierra Nevada on tap. Plus, the quesadillas were awesome. I don't know if I'll even hike that way this year now. This is very disappointing.

Success on the Gaudalupe Trail

Postby rickyb » Thu Jan 03, 2008 9:57 pm

We had an enjoyable and successful hike Dec 30th on the Guadalupe Trail from Sugarloaf to La Quinta. We met Paul at Cactus Springs who lead us to the Cowboy Camp and pointed us in the right direction towards the LQ Cove. We departed at 7:15am, arriving La Quinta at 2:30pm.

A big THANK YOU to all that replied and offered advice, especially Hal, George Araya, Paul and Augustine.

Happy and safe hiking in 2008 from your NH friends, Rick & Wanda

Thanks to Lee and his willingness to set up the shuttle and hike with me, I finally was able to do the Guadalupe Trail this past Saturday. The GPS said 15.5 miles with 5400'gain/1600'loss. Here's a map showing the GPS track if anyone is interested:

It was a really pretty trail and I was disappointed at the beginning of the hike because I forgot my camera and thought I wasn't going to be able to take pictures, but Lee had two cameras and he was nice enough to lend me one. Here are some pictures from along the trail:

I know Lee will have lots of photos to share too - I'm looking forward to seeing those.

Kathy, thats one of the most beautiful areas I know of, also one of my favorite trails. I live one block from the trailhead parking lot in La Quinta. Theres a lot more back there in the Santa Rosas thats primitive and spectacular. Glad you had a good trip

Here is my attempt at shooting a movie with a camera of the hike
http://leeland.shutterfly.com/18957
1.5 frame per minute movie :)

I did my part for the hike's shuttle and that was about it. Without Kathy's planning and her awesome map-reading and route-finding skill, I'd have had to turn around or be lost somewhere on the Guadalupe trail - I came with just written notes I had gathered from the internet. The Guadalupe trail should be re-named to "Good Luck" trail. Good Luck as in good luck finding the trail :)

With this trip, a big hiking wish of mine has materialized. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks again, Kathy, for the hike and for slowing down to my pace.

And... Hal and Steve: The trash/debris at the start/on the way to the Boo Hoff trail head are from another old cowboy camp ?

I didn't slow down, I'm just slow. It was nice to hike with someone who hikes at a moderate pace like me, but can go a long distance. Now I just need to talk you into that R2R2R day hike - we'll have 24 hours to do it.

R2R2R
me ? lol

I have not been anywhere near the Grand Canyon and would love to go for a hike there but I don't think I can or want to that 45, 50 miles out and back hike. Maybe R2R :) Will check the peakbaggers site and pm you.
