Yeah, I don't think most people set out to burn down the forest. They just do something stupid, like having a log half hanging out of the fire and then leaving the fire smoldering. Eventually, the fire burns down the log -- and out of the fire circle. It goes rapidly down hill from there. It never ceases to amaze me that people build fires where there's no water around. I guess if you hike with a shovel, that's all right, but most of us don't carry anything more than a potty trowel. Absent a shovel, just how were you proposing to get the fire out? Oh, you'll just let it burn itself out? And that's how fires start.
