Wed Skyline (jan 22)

General Palm Springs area.

Rene,

By all accounts, starting at Ramon is easier to follow.

Times for doing the Skyline trail (from the desert just to the tram) vary. Fast trail runners will have times in the four to five hour range. Fast hikers will have times in the 6 to 7 hour range. Slower hikers will have times in the 8 to 9 hour range. I think some really slow people have been in the 10 to 12 hour range. I've seen some people sitting by the trailside just wasted and looking grim. Clearly, they weren't ready for the physical demands of 8,000 (!) feet of gain.

If you're interested, here's my write up of my trip up the Skyline Trail. I went from Ramon Road.

Thanks for all the great information. Today is my last day in PS :( I have wanted to run/hike this trail the last five visits but there has always been too much snow (for me). This year would have been the ideal conditions but I was recovering from a bad flu and just wasn't sure how long it would take me. I went up past the first emergency box this morning (from our condo on Ramon) and I got up just past it in about 50min at a comfortable pace. It was around 6.5km and 2200 feet. I am inspired by all you C2C hikers and I hope to experience it one of these years. Thanks again - I will check out your blog too.

Smiles :)
