A new approach to Onion Rock

General Palm Springs area.

I see the trail you're talking about on the map, but I don't see anything when I switch to satellite view. Not sure what to say there.

Looks like an interesting location. Maybe worth a look-see?

P.S. Oh, and there are not one but three springs shown on the map; I've marked them as points "B", "C", and "D."

Is Black Mountain Road still open? If so, it seems like the trail is fairly short and should be pretty easy to find. If I make another scouting trip from the top (trying to get to the Onion) then I'll definitely check it out.

So, does anyone know if Black Mountain Road is open?

I think that's the old PCT but am not sure. Before the current PCT, the trail went down to Hurley Flat and then down the Cabazon. I've tried to find some online info about this route but have struck out so far. May go to the library and see if I can find an early edition of the PCT book. It's been on my LONG and ever increasing list of places to explore next for a while.

That trail, if in reality it exists, might be a good way to bypass a lot of that brush up there. It looks fairly wooded over along the trail.
