Rangers in Idyllwild this morning confirmed that the trails from Humber to Wellman's Divide are closed and will remain so "for a while."

Anyone have any updates? I was hoping to get in one more Humber to Summit hike before the snows really hit.

On Saturday the 9th, there was still caution tape across the trail at Strawberry Junction camp just past the outhouse. From the wellman's side, there is just a sign on the ground that says the trail is closed a mile up ahead. Area looks like it wasn't touched by the fire, wish they would open it soon!

Les Walker of RMRU just posted this Forest Closure map on Facebook (see below).

It would appear that the section of trail from Saddle Junction to Wellman Divide is open effective 11/13/2013. The trail through Little Tahquitz Valley (3E41) also appears to be open.

Text of the order:
Effective November 13, 2013, the San Bernardino National Forest’s, Forest Order 13-11 (Mountain Fire Emergency Closure Order), has been terminated and replaced by Forest Order 13-18 (Order), a one-year closure of National Forest System Lands. Implementation of the Order will reduce the area subject to closure and provide for greater public access and opportunities on the Forest. There is a need for this Order because of the threat to public health and safety and to protect critical natural resources impacted by the Mountain Fire. Over the next year, the Order will be evaluated to determine if threats to public health and safety and risks to critical natural resources have been mitigated to warrant adjustments to the closure area.

I just returned from a hike in the area and was told by both the Forest Service and the State Park that a new Forest Closure issue was in effect. The PCT is now open from Saddle Junction north and from Highway 74 to Cedar Springs. The trail through Tahquitz Meadow is also open. The remaining areas will be closed at least a year for evaluation and repair.

When I came down from the summit through Wellmans Divide, I was met by a State Park volunteer who told me the PCT was still closed. There were signs up in the State Park with the old closure order and yellow tape was across the PCT just east of the Strawberry Junction camp (this was last Sunday). However, there are no closure notices in place on the USFS land.

Sounds like the state is out of date. :)

Shocking. Wish I would have asked when I was up there yesterday.
