On Saturday 9/28 I was hoping to hike Marion Mnt and was told by both the US and CA rangers that the entire area east of the PCT and Marion Mountain Trail, south of Wellman divide, and north of Saddle Junction is closed. I was also told that entering that area would result in a $5,000 fine and possibly jail time. To be clear, the feds told me to confirm with the state park, and the state people told me that the summit of Marion Mnt. is closed and has been since the fire. Also, the 1.0 mile trail heading south from Wellman divide is now closed. They said they are still observing smoke and small flare ups in the burn area and they are concerned that the fire won't be completely out until the snow falls or there is a consistent storm pattern. I'd love to hear more information about this from the people here who have been hiking Marion in the last month. I'd like to go hike it but obviously I don't want to violate the closure.

I ended up doing a warm up hike up the Suicide climbers trail to the top of the crag and then ran to the Tahquitz lookout tower from Humber Park. I've never done that trail as a run before... it's a really good one!!
