Dear law enforcement authorities,

At some point you'll realize that your shitty physical training that haphazardly relies on a Crossfit-like methodology just sucks for real endurance & heat tolerance.

I mean, isn't this an embarrassment? Shouldn't these people be the best of the best. High fitness, excellent ability to assess conditions, terrain, etc... WTF

From the Desert Sun:

The temperature at Palm Springs International Airport was 93 degrees just before 10 a.m. when the officers called for help.

Imagine if it'd actually been hot today.

Also think it has to do with illegal pot growing, really getting out of hand in our local mountains. Four weeks ago , came across an abandoned pot growing pad (5' x 8') dug out on the side of a gully (El. 7,000ft.?)when hiking cross-country from Marion Mountain trail over to Seven Pines Trail. Discarded soda cans, trash, bailing wire, and WD-40 (for gun cleaning?)Thank God it was abandoned for I would probably never be heard of again.

Edit: I looked at the photos, and they are in uniform. That's good for us.

This story seems a bit fishy to me. They called for help at 10am from 5000 feet suffering from "heat exhaustion".

It wasn't that hot down in the valley at 10 to be suffering from heat exhaustion and it surely wasn't at 5000 feet on the north side of the mountain.

So, what I'm thinking is it could have been altitude sickness from sleeping at Boulder Basin or one of the campgrounds up there or perhaps someone may have had a couple too many last night sitting around BSing around the campfire and somebody was hungover. Of course, it could have been dehydration if they'd been out there a couple day hiking but heat exhaustion just doesn't seem very plausible.

I'm not conspiracy crank but the story just doesn't add up.

Yeah, but of course we're basing this on accounts in the media. The media has also published accounts that the tram goes to the top of San Jacinto Peak (it doesn't) and that San Jacinto Peak is the 3rd highest peak in S. Cal (it's not).
