I thought you were speaking to me personally but I understand what you mean about the cuts. Hard to tell the "original" trail from everything else now. Sometimes I think I am on the original trail until my path crosses another. For what it's worth, it is always my intent to stay on the most well-traveled path. I was under the impression that certain comments were made about people who just "fly up" skyline not having any respect for the mountain or trail, but now I understand it is more directed towards the cutters. No more comments from me, carry on.

One of those rare bootprints you saw might have been mine. I grew up in Palm Springs and started hiking the Skyline when i was in high school. My first time on the trail was probably around 1970.

Maybe some hardcore trail maintenance would help, such as placing heavy boulders in front of every shortcut.
