Doesn't look like the snowfall amounts will be all that unheard of, but the snow levels look like they might be lower than anything we've seen lately.

It snowed in Malibu back in the 80's. I remember driving to work in the snow in the San Fernando Valley in the 80's. What a trip.

Howdy All

Had so much fun snowshoeing from the tram last weekend that I'll be headed up again this weekend. This time I'll bring along boots and clothing for a desert hike if the snow level closes the tram road and/or ices up the cables.

Went up on Wednesday with Sally and met Robin (MyOtherBoots). When we reached the base of Miller Saddle, we headed over to the gully that meets the ridge near Jean Peak, then headed over to San J. I LOVE this ridge -- it offers beautiful views. It was also fun to break new trail, though the incoming snow will likely obliterate our tracks from Long Valley on up.

Ellen, you are one mountain climbing woman nowadays! How many times are you averaging a week right now?

Of course, I built an igloo in the back yard.



But my big fat butt would barely fit into it.

Hey, I met Warren the Warden last weekend. He recognized me, (maybe because I was running?) and seemed actually pretty reasonable. When he introduced himself, I said, 'So, YOU'RE Satan!?" He actually had a sense of humor, and seems to love the back country...without the strange enforcement tactics (he and I did not come into agreement on that topic) I could see him trekking along with a few of us up in the wilderness. Still can't understand using the goons, though. He said they regularly test the water and the bacteria counts always go up when climbers go up. I don't remember the name of the bacteria, but it started with "fecal". Try as I might, I can't imagine climbers "going" in the creek! Maybe they scare the poop out of local wildlife?
