There are at lots of tracks going out to the Tamarack Valley and the summit now; so it's an easy trek. If you head up, be careful of the ice falling out of the trees.

Just a reminder - please don't glissade down an uphill boot or snowshoe track and obliterate it - we're supposed to improve the track for the next person coming up, not make it an icy mess. It doesn't take much effort to move out of the track before you start sliding.

You might not want to glissade anyway - the snow is very wet, and you'll be wet and cold the rest of the way down. Still, when given the choice between glissading or walking, one is WAY more fun! Thanks for the pointer Kathy, I had not thought of that before. Steps are much easier than a smooth, slippery track on the way up. Merry Christmas to you all!

Hi Kathryn,
You guys are strong to get to the summit with all that wet, heavy snow, wish I could have seen all that blue ice, truly amazing up there when that happens!

Looking forward to going up again soon, I went up yesterday as well to an area where there was tons of heavy snow all over the trees & rocks.

Watch out for all falling snow & ice coming off the trees!

The last one is the helo pilot working feverishly,(@ $600 / hr.) to help get the power lines repaired after the storm so the Mt. Sta & Ranger Sta can get power back, (there were on a genny / back-up the last 2 days, and the Adv. Ctr was not able to open because of it).

Wow! I'm so glad to see that the rime ice is still there! When we went up Thursday, the ice on the trees was melting fast and you're right Scott...there was a lot of falling snow, water and ice from the trees. And worse than that..occasionally tree limbs! So, it can be dangerous in the trees. I wished that I had brought a helmet along that day.
