Thanks for the wise counsel. My son did Whitney in a day when he was 10, and my daughter has the lowest standing heart rate in her entire class. Overall, I am confident in their ability. Having said that, we live in San Diego, so Cactus 2 Clouds is a hike we can accomplish anytime.
The train of thought that there is no reason to subject the kids to potential challenges by attempting the hike with the projected heat makes sense to me. I look forward to tackling this hike at a future (cooler) date with some or all of you.
Any advice for a cooler climate hike with 5k-6k in elevation gain and 15 miles or so?
