carolyn (stinky) and i had a great--if long--day. we started first (3:31) and left the summit last, finishing around 7:30.

we just kept a steady pace all day, and would have gone a lot faster if our leader made some better decisions...we took the wrong chute up the notch. ouch. and we had a few other minor detours.

a request- it would be great if somebody could "fix" that double arrow painted on a rock about 1/3 of a mile from the start. we took the left--uphill--trail and wasted about 10 minutes figuring out our mistake.

we saw a few folks from the board. larry (?) from irvine cruised by us above flat rock, and again on his way down from the peak. tina blew by us below the notch...

a weird sighting: we saw a couple people ahead of us on the trail about 1/2 mile from the museum, oddly without lights. when we caught up to them, they were off the trail below us. i called out to them, and when they got closer it turned out they were a couple of drunk/high teens that were obviously lost, but having fun...

they yelled out, "do you have some water", but since they were kinda sketchy, we just took off. i hope they found their way home...

anyway, after some great adventures/memories the last two weeks, i'm putting skyline to rest till the fall. ya'll be safe out there in the heat.

Started at 6am and reached Long Valley at noon. It took an hour longer than I was hoping, but it was my first time on this trail and I didn't realize that there was a long relatively flat section in the middle. I'll have to go considerably faster to break 5 hours. Might give it another try in the fall.

Reached the San Jacinto Peak a little before 4pm and made it to the tram by 6pm, so it turned out to be a 12 hour hike.
