Pines to Palms

Postby Cy Kaicener » Wed Feb 18, 2009 3:44 am

Bluerail - A whole bunch of us are doing the 13 mile hike up from Indian Canyons with a shuttle at the end. I hope there are enough cars up there for the shuttle. I contacted Udi. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 28th.

Kevin, just to make sure Yichus map is clear, Mark and I started at Pine View dr. not at Pinyon campground. We couldn't be sure of the trailhead at the campground and the one at Pine View dr is real clear.

Bluerail,

Thanks for the clarification. I am up for Jo Pond, or for joining Cy's group,
I can provide some shuttle support from the top.

Ideally, I would like to go from the bottom up and return in one day, -- always easier to travel down on the second half of the trip...lol

But I dont know what time the Indian Canyons open, and the days are still relatively short. So Saturday, I will most likely start at the top, and head down. If I cant arrange a shuttle, I will turn around after I use about 1/3 of my allotted time. Seems to take twice as long to climb.

Now I wont have to spend anytime wondering if I am in the right starting spot.

Palms to Pines / Palm Canyon

Postby Cy Kaicener » Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:23 am

Udi has just informed me that outdoorsclub.org has cancelled (or postponed) their trip because of too much snow starting at 3000 feet with one or two more storms coming before then. There goes the car shuttle unless we can arrange one ourselves.

Is there snow at the top of Palm Canyon ( I mean at HWY 74)?

I am taking the family to Big Bear tonight for a couple of days. I will
have had my fill of snow....I am looking forward to Palm Canyon from the top on Sat 21st., but I dont want to hike in snow.

Cy, if you want to still work out a shuttle on the weekend you were planning, let me know.

Palm Canyon / Pines to Palms

Thanks for the offer Kevin. Lets wait another week and see what the weather brings and hear what other interested hikers for this trail are planning.
If snow conditions are not good I will just hike part of the way.

When I send a pm it just goes to the outbox and doesn't get sent ? I've sent them before but sometimes it doesn't work. any help is appreciated.

Kevin, I am still interested in doing Jo Pond on the 28th if you are interested PLMK. As for this weekend, are you still planning on doing Palm Canyon as a yo-yo hike ? I'm trying to figure out what I am doing sat. am leaning towards the Guadalupe but have thought about palm canyon or somewhere on the pct.

Howdy Steve,

I would love to do Jo Pond with you on Saturday Feb 28 and am happy to help with the car shuttle. I'll stay in touch.
