11-18 snowshoeing from the tram

Is it worth the drive from San Diego or is the snow more suited to crampons now? I haven't heard of any new storms.

i just did Baldy and didn't need snowshoes or crampons, although crampons would have been good to have had i had them.

Saabiar- you might be able to get away with crampons, i only did that trail once and there was no snow. i am probably not the best to ask for it. As far as the drive, its a beautiful view and i think a good hike.

As far as I know, there's still good enough coverage to snowshoe, hike, and or cramp-ons to the peak, or all the above on the same hike!

Hi,
I snowshoed to the peak Sat, snow was inconsistent, challenging, hard, mushy, not very deep. Someone had summited w/out snowshoes and post-holed a bunch.
There's some moderate exposure on the long traverse from the flat area of the trail through the Boulder field to Miller Pk saddle.
Didn't do the 2nd traverse, as we went north on the Boyscout route.

That may all change w/in the next few days, as a system is coming in.

Great temps, almost no wind, could actually see Catalina Island!
