Snow

Postby Cy Kaicener » Sat Dec 01, 2007 10:59 am

I walked up the tram road this morning starting at 5.30 am in heavy fog or clouds. I took the first tram up with only one other person. There was 2 inches of icy snow at Long Valley. The temperature at 8.20 am was 21 degrees with a ferocious wind. The high today is forecast as 32 degrees. I feel for the hikers of the Outdoorsclub starting at Snow Creek at 3 am this morning and going up to the peak. If the high at Long Valley is 32 degrees today, what could it be at the peak.?

and that 32 degree high was at midnight, cy. it's only 20 up there now (10:30). i hope they decided to put it off for another day, or least turn around when they hit snow/ice. otherwise, it could be a looong day...

Nothing on the RMRU site so everything must have worked out for them.

Maybe more snow for next weekend:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=SGX&llon=-116.876247&rlon=-115.846247&tlat=34.244584&blat=33.217084&smap=1&mp=0&map.x=45&map.y=107

Sounds great.

It sure was cold and windy in the mountains yesterday - we headed up Baldy but turned back at about 8500 feet elevation - ice/wind/cold. It was colder at 11 am than it was at 8 am out there. The mountains looked beautiful from Redlands today when I went out for my run - looks like San Gorgonio is snowier than Baldy.

The Desert Sun predicts severe weather for Friday and Saturday. It should be a much bigger storm than the last one. We have three good days before then.

Uh oh. Big forecast = little storm. Still, I'm always hopeful! At least we've now had the first real storm of the season. Maybe it'll pick up speed.

Most of the weather forecasts seem to indicate lots of rain and cool temps for most of the Southland. The weather report from the Palm Springs Tram (Gregg Potter I believe) indicates little or know rain for San J this weekend. Is the palm springs tram weather forecast usually pretty reliable?
