Speculation on the Ending of the Fire Closure

I spoke to a ranger at the Idyllwiild Station 909 382 2921/2/3 and they are going to re-evaluate the situation at the beginning of next week, possibly Tuesday, so there is a good chance of hiking on the week end of November 10 and 11th or sooner. Santa Anna winds are expected this week end which would make it very unlikely.

Well, that sounds hopeful anyway. If we can get through this weekend safely, that's a blessing all by itself.

With everything closed, I may take Cynthia's suggestion and go up Skyline to around 5k, then turn back.

I hiked up the tram road twice and got a ride back to my car once. That gradual descent puts no strain on your knees.
Anyone hear any news on the lifting of the closure?

They are making their decision this afternoon. They asked me to call this afternoon between 3 and 4.00 pm.

I called at 3 pm like the ranger suggested and no decision has been made yet.
I hope they are not waiting for the next rain.

Apparently the SGW and ANF will be opening on 11/08/2007. Probably the USFS portion of the San Jacintos too. Perhaps the state portion will follow suit?

This is very good news inasmuch as some of us have been driven to desperate measures:
