Snow conditions around Black mountain

Hi,

I was thinking about hike to Black mountain these days. If anyone hiked around these days, could you tell me

- Is there any snow on the 243 road crossing SJM (do I need snow tires/chains nowdays?)
- Is there snow on the trails in the upper part of SJM?

Which Black Mountain? The name is far too common. There's one by Temecula, near 79, but I do not know of one by 243.

I'm talking about smaller peak 5 miles west from Mt. San Jacinto.

Hi HH8. I know what you mean about mountain names...seem like the same 5 or 6 names are used again and again all over the place. There's a map on the park brochure http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/636/files ... ut2013.pdf. Scroll down to the last page to find the map. Black Mountain is right by Fuller Ridge in the top left corner. You'll probably need to zoom in a little bit. The map does not show the trail, which is odd because it's an official trail maintained by state personnel.

Hi balboa. I think I know exactly where you mean. You're talking about the Black Mountain trail that goes up to the lookout on Black Mountain, right? Not Black Mountain Road, which also starts on the 243. There is no snow at the road where the trail begins. I haven't been up the trail recently, but there will most likely be snow as you get higher up, say above 8000 or 9000 feet. It's especially nice if you are descending around sunset, as you can see the sun reflecting off the Pacific from up there. Have fun!

Actually this is a new thing with a debug message, possibly related to the upgrade of the database language while the board is using old software. After taxes I'll work on a quick fix... It does appear to still work with a posting delay time.
